The optical properties of pure poly(vinyl alcohol) and doped with aluminum chloride thin films

Abstract

The optical properties such as the absorbance spectra, absorption coefficients,
energy gaps, extinction coefficients, refractive indices and the real and imaginary
parts of the dielectric constant of the pure poly(vinyl alcohol) and doped with
aluminum chloride thin films were prepared using a casting technique have been
studied. The thickness of the prepared films was 0. 237μm which determined using
optical method. Different concentrations of AlCl3 salt were used. It was found that
the absorbance intensity increased with increasing of the concentration of AlCl3 salt,
with a red shift and the energy gaps decreased with increasing concentration of the
aluminum chloride.
